Southeast Asia Traveling Tips
Updating your vaccines is just one way to prevent harmful diseases while traveling in Southeast Asia. Malaria, Dengue Fever, and Travelers’ Diarrhoea are some other illnesses that you should protect yourself from, here’s how……
How to Prevent Malaria and Dengue Fever
Malaria and Dengue Fever are serious, potentially life-threatening diseases transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. If it is not diagnosed and treated right away, it can be deadly.
Malaria can be prevented with anti-malarial medications and implementing practical tips such as using mosquito repellent, wearing long sleeves and long pants, and using mosquito bed nets. There is no medication to prevent Dengue Fever, but you can use the tips above to protect yourself.
Travelers Diarrhoea
Travelers’ Diarrhoea is a digestive tract disorder that commonly causes loose stools, abdominal cramps, and sometimes fever. It’s caused by eating contaminated food or drinking water. Fortunately, travelers’ diarrhea isn’t serious — it’s just unpleasant.
Anti-diarrhoeal medication such as Pepto Bismol or Imodium can be helpful to treat symptoms. You may need antibiotics if you develop a fever.
