RSV (Respiratory syncytial virus) is a virus that can feel similar to a cold or the flu, but for some people it can be a more serious illness that can make them feel very unwell. For infants and the elderly RSV can sometimes be serious, for those we recommend that they get the RSV vaccine to boost their immunity.
In the same way colds and flu spread easily in winter, RSV also benefits from everyone being indoors for long periods of time where the illness is spread through coughs, sneezes and contact with contaminated surfaces. If you’re interested in getting the RSV Vaccine or would like more information on availability and eligibility, contact our pharmacy team. Prices start from £235.
RSV is a virus which causes respiratory illness and is mainly spread through coughing and sneezing, and contact with an infected person or contaminated surface. It spreads very similar to flu and COVID and has similar symptoms including:
While for most people these symptoms will clear up on their own, for some it can lead to more serious illnesses. To help prevent the spread of RSV, as well as getting the vaccine, it’s important to distance yourself from people with colds and flu, regularly disinfect surfaces and avoid touching your face or mouth if your hands aren’t clean.

RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is a virus that can feel like a cold or flu. For many people, it’s mild, but it can be more serious, particularly for older adults, people with weakened immune systems, or those with certain health conditions like lung or heart issues. The vaccine helps boost your immunity, making it less likely you’ll become severely unwell if you catch RSV.
The RSV vaccine is usually recommended for adults aged 60 and over or for those with underlying health conditions that put them at greater risk. If you’re not sure if you fall into this group, we can help assess your eligibility.
The cost varies depending on the provider, but at Miles Pharmacy, our prices start at £235.
You can get the vaccine privately at our pharmacy, Miles Pharmacy & Travel Clinic. Speak to our pharmacists to book your appointment and find out if you’re eligible for the vaccine.
The RSV vaccine is designed to lower your chances of serious illness if you catch RSV. While no vaccine is 100% effective, it significantly reduces the risk of severe symptoms or hospitalisation and is worth getting if you are or work with someone at risk.
Most people experience only mild side effects, like a sore arm where the injection was given, tiredness, or a mild fever. These usually go away in a day or two, similarly to side effects from the flu jab.
