What is a Fit to fly certificate

Now that lockdown restrictions have eased and people are starting to plan their well-deserved holiday, there are a lot of questions that are being asked about what you need to do to comply with COVID regulations. You may have heard of a fit to fly certificate before which in general is a medical certificate written by a doctor that confirms you are fit and well to fly. It is a way you can prove that you are well enough to fly by having a doctor review your symptoms, and medical history and have a medical examination if necessary. With the ever-changing world of COVID-19, some countries now require a fit to fly certificate when traveling with a negative result PCR Covid test.

When is It Necessary?
Not all will require a fit to fly certificate, it is only necessary when traveling to a certain country. If you are not sure if you need a fit to fly certificate you can check this by going to the Gov. uk website and search Covid-19 guidance and support. There you will find all the information you need to do before traveling and returning to the UK. If the country is red-listed, then you cannot travel to that country. Your travel certificate needs to be obtained close to the date you are planning to travel due to the old certificate being at risk of rejection. It’s also worth checking your airline before you travel as some airlines and countries may specify how recent your certificate needs to be for it to get approved.

How do I obtain it?
A can obtain a fit to fly certificate through your GP practice. However, You will have to go privately for your Covid-10 test. If you get the certificate with a negative covid result it will show that you have a low risk of spreading the virus to other people in the country that you visit. The NHS does not issue out Covid tests for the purpose of traveling therefore you will need to get a test in the private sector. You can obtain a Covid test in Epsom where our staff will go through the procedure and address any concerns you might have. At Miles Pharmacy in Epsom, you will receive your results within 48-72 hours.
